Enxtra®: the caffeine modulator that sharpens alertness and mental concentration
The world we all live in today requires ever greater performance. Performance is not only “physical”, the one always sought after by athletes and sportsmen, but it is also “mental”.
Mental performance represents the ability to be alert and reactive to the different stimuli we receive, to be able to process them effectively and to maintain a high degree of attention and concentration during the execution of the daily tasks.
To do that coffee is very useful. Indeed, caffeine is able to stimulate the brain inducing a more alert and alert condition.
However, caffeine has its limitations too.
Indeed, by overdoing caffeinated beverages (especially coffee and tea), excessive doses of the latter are taken, causing side effects such as nausea, tachycardia and insomnia. Furthermore, caffeine can be addictive: for the same amount of caffeine taken, its action becomes less and less effective and it is necessary to increase the dosage more and more to have an equal effect. Last but not least, a strong limitation of caffeine is the “caffeine crash” effect, in which, after the ingestion of caffeine there is a peak of concentration followed, however, by a collapse and a feeling of tiredness in which new caffeine is still being sought, entering a vicious circle.
For this reason, when we developed Focus Mind, the product useful for supporting mental energy and concentration, we looked for alternatives to caffeine that were truly valid and without side effects.
One of these is Enxtra®.
Enxtra® is not a substitute for caffeine: it completes its effect, allowing to obtain a high mental focus while keeping the caffeine content moderate.
What is Enxtra®?
Enxtra® is a plant extract obtained from the tuber of Alpinia galanga, a herbaceous plant of the Zingiberaceae family (the same family as ginger) native to Southeast Asia. It is obtained with a patented method capable of preserving the profile of active ingredients, in particular polyphenols and tannins.
A study compared the effect of caffeine alone with that of caffeine added to 300 mg of Enxtra® on 70 subjects with moderate consumption of caffeine (Srivastava & Pimple, BAOJ Nutr, 2017). The researchers measured the response times of the participants to the various concentration tests the latter were subjected to and observed that:
• In subjects who had received caffeine alone, the positive effect disappeared after 3 hours.
• Instead, those who received Enxtra® had a high, stable and prolonged mental performance for all the subsequent 5 hours of the analysis, without loss of mental focus.
• Taking Enxtra® does not give side effects such as tachycardia or insomnia.
The data obtained from a subsequent study also suggested that Enxtra® has a real synergistic action with caffeine, optimizing the dopaminergic activity of the latter (Srivastava et al, J Am Coll Nutr, 2017).
The science supporting Enxtra® demonstrates that Enxtra® supports the action of caffeine and, at the same time, prevents the unpleasant caffeine crash effect. Among the effects of caffeine, there is, in fact, the vasoconstriction of the blood vessels of the brain with consequently reduced blood flow, leading to the caffeine crash effect. Enxtra®, on the other hand, induces vasodilation of the cerebral blood vessels and thus maintains blood flow avoiding the caffeine crash.
In conclusion, this patented dry extract of Alpinia galanga is able to enhance the vigilance and concentration effect of caffeine, while at the same time abolishing its side effects and the caffeine crash.
Therefore, in this increasingly technological and “mental-demanding” world, Enxtra® comes to great help, both in daily life and in sport. Mental performance and physical performance are actually two sides of the same coin.
